Project Welcome Back

With its steeple rising nearly 100 ft high at the center of The Commons, the United Congregational Church of Little Compton (built in 1832) is the tallest and most iconic historic landmark in our town.

We need to raise approximately $33,000 to complete the exterior restoration of our historic church (including carpentry repairs, painting and landscaping) and to finish a nearly completed renovation of the interior. You may have noticed the new addition to the rear of the building, which will better accommodate weddings and funerals, Sunday worship, public concerts, casual receptions, and improve elevator access.

We have already raised nearly one million dollars from our congregation and a generous local foundation toward this $1.1 million effort that we call, “Project Welcome”. Your generous gift of any amount will help push this project over the finish line, so that we can celebrate the reopening of our renovated church on Sunday, July 18 and keep this local landmark looking its best for future generations.

Our vibrant congregation has been an anchor of rural community life here in Little Compton for more than 300 years. Our volunteers organize the town’s annual Summer Fair (to be held this year on August 7) and manage the Thrift Shop (which will reopen in early July). Your contribution will help maintain our cherished local pride of place in Little Compton, make the church a more inviting space for visitors, and more appreciated by everyone in town who just passes by.
